Getting started

Install the app

1. Download the disk image and open it.
2. Drag Kilobat into Applications, then open it from Applications.
3. Kilobat is free to use: live traffic, the Wi-Fi picker and speed tests need no license. To unlock Pro features such as blocking, profiles, budgets, history and signal radar, start the 14-day Pro trial or paste your purchased license into Settings.
4. Choose your menu-bar items and metrics in Settings. Hold Command while dragging a menu-bar item to move it.

Kilobat supports macOS 14 or newer. If macOS cannot verify a download, download a fresh copy from this site and contact support. Do not bypass Gatekeeper to run an unverified copy.

Enable access rules

Monitoring works before filtering is enabled. To enforce rules, choose the filtering setup control in Kilobat, then approve the extension and content filter when macOS asks. On current macOS, extension controls are under System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions → Network Extensions; labels can vary by macOS version. The app must remain in Applications.

Start with the Unrestricted profile while learning the controls. Filtering affects new connections; an existing connection may continue until it reconnects. If a rule interrupts something important, switch to Unrestricted or disable the content filter in Settings.

Wi-Fi names and sharing

Allow Location permission when requested to see network names and scan nearby networks. Joining a network, restarting Wi-Fi or changing DNS can interrupt your connection. Sharing a QR code or showing a saved password requires an explicit action and system authorization. Treat the QR code like the password itself.

Activate or move a license

Find your key in your purchase email or the customer portal linked from your purchase email. Open Kilobat’s Settings, paste the key and activate. Each license has two Mac slots. To move a slot, choose Deactivate this Mac on the old Mac. If the old Mac is unavailable, contact ping@kilobat.app with your order identifier.

Free CLI

Download the CLI archive, unpack it, and place the kilobat executable in a directory on your shell’s PATH. Run kilobat --help for commands. No paid license is needed. The desktop download also includes the executable at Kilobat.app/Contents/Helpers/kilobat.

Remove Kilobat

1. Disable filtering in Kilobat’s Settings while the app is still installed. Verify macOS no longer shows its filter enabled.
2. Turn off Open at login and quit Kilobat.
3. Move Kilobat from Applications to Trash. If macOS asks to remove its network extension, approve removal.
4. To remove local records, use Finder’s Go to Folder to open ~/Library/Application Support/Kilobat and remove that folder after quitting. Remove Kilobat preferences if you want to reset settings. License and trial records in Keychain are separate.

If you have a paid license, deactivate this Mac before removal to free its slot. Removing the app alone does not cancel a purchase or request a refund.

Write to ping@kilobat.app with your macOS version, Kilobat version and what you expected to happen. A screenshot or a reviewed diagnostic report can help. Remove sensitive network names and addresses before sharing. Never include a Wi-Fi password, full card number or license key.
